Thalazur Ouistreham

My husband and I stayed here for one night prior to catching the ferry home the following morning. The hotel is in a great location, right by the beach and very close to the shops and restaurants. Having a free carpark is also a bonus. The bedroom was fine, average size with a good sized, comfortable bed. The spa was also nice. We didn't have breakfast as we left early in the morning for the ferry.

Me and my husband spend a small weekend in this hotel with a “OCEAN view room” which should be called as a “ WALL view room” !!! It is ridiculous to charge a ocean view room for this!!!! Secondly, due to the Covid, the hotel proposed to have set menu send to the room. The food was “disgusting” and extremely overpriced!!! Quantity is as small as a kid’s meal and without any seasoning !!! I don’t even talk about the breakfast.... I think a formule 1 hôtel can do better. I have no idea how come this bad maintained hotel can be even rated as 4 stars hotel!!! It should be only deserving 2 stars maximum !!! Terrible terrible terrible stay !!!

Terrible customer service. Was meant to stay here tonight at the end of a week long trip to our house in another part of France. Had issues at the house which meant we had to delay everything by a day. We rang the hotel first to see if we could push our visit back by a day so that we could stay there tomorrow night instead. Lady said yes should be fine as they had availability but as we booked through booking.com, just to change the dates on there. We then changed our ferry home to a day later because of what she said and went to do the change on booking.com like she said. Wouldn't go through. Sent a message to the hotel through booking.com. No response. Rang the hotel this morning to this time be told that the booking.com booking we had was non changeable (which we knew but just wanted to see) and booking.com couldn't be flexible. Rang booking.com who said they were fine with changing it but they needed hotels authorisation. Got put on hold whilst booking.com rang the hotel, again the hotel said they did have availability but could the booking agent call back in an hour when someone from their reservations team could authorise. I rang booking.com again a couple of hours later today and the hotel still hadn't given them an answer so I was put on hold again whilst the agent rang the hotel again. Finally got told that no they wouldn't change the reservation and the booking.com agent even said that the hotel had been quite rude to them and were very adamant that they would not change it even though we had said we would pay a surcharge if the change of dates incurred one.Thanks to the hotel for the initial misinformation and giving us the go ahead to change all our travel plans only to then change their minds. Seemed like they wanted to try to make booking.com the bad guys and didn't want to tell us no themselves. Should mention that booking.com were great and completely relaxed about changing everything, contacting the hotel etc but just the hotel wouldn't authorise it for whatever reason. After having it confirmed multiple times that they had the availability to do this, just seemed they wanted to be awkward and pocket the money from us now not being able to stay tonight. Hotel looks amazing and would loved to have stayed here but seems they didn't want us. Will definitely be seeking a claim here.

The hotel is well situated by the beach and a short walk from the pedestrianised centre of Ouistreham. The national liberation monument and no4 commando museum (That remembers the 177 strong, and largely symbolic, Free French Army) are very close too. The hotel is sited within an area where all street parking is by pay and display. Whilst the hotel car park is free it does not have any form of restricted access and I found that it was hard to find a space at certain times. Our room was comfortable, if rather small; there was a case stand but nowhere to deploy it. The separate wc door opened inwards just missing the lavatory bowl making exiting it tricky. The decor was good but spoilt by cheap white melamine fitted furniture. The promised "town view" was a view of air conditioning equipment across a flat roof and access to the room was via a flight of 3 narrow stairs that my wife found difficult. The restaurant was good but I found that breakfast (€16 per head) was a little bizarre with lots of large, overweight customers in white towling bathrobes.
